  • Reading Tips with Nichole Knox
    • Print Motivation: Allow your child to enjoy books and recognize reading as a pleasurable activity. Attend fun reading events like library story times and activities, bookstores and/ or book sales, author signings…
    • Read yourself: Model to your child what a healthy reader does by reading and enjoying books. Turn off the TV in the evening and make time for reading as a family.
    • Introduce diverse genres to your child fantasy, historical fiction, adventure, science fiction, poetry, Mother Goose rhymes, and even songs written in book format. Give your child an opportunity to discover and read books he/ she enjoys.
    • Read aloud to your child: Readers are never too young or too old to have a book read to them. The experience is enjoyable, comforting and allows a parent to see how well their child is reading and create important parent-child bonding time.
    • Read everything: There are opportunities to read everywhere you go and parents should encourage their children to do so.
    • Listen to audio books: Audio books help children understand that books are to be read with expression. Parents can listen to these books in the car or at home and test the literacy skills of prediction and inference by asking questions about what their child heard.
