I’m sorry that I missed sharing my winner with you yesterday. Did you know that the library was closed yesterday? Do you know why?
That’s right! It was Martin Luther King, Jr. Day! Martin Luther King, Jr. was a very important man who thought that everyone, no matter who they are or what their skin color is, should be treated in the same way and with the same respect. That is called civil rights. Isn’t that wonderful?
My winner this week is a book about Martin Luther King, Jr. It is called Martin’s Big Words by Doreen Rappaport. It is about Martin’s life and how he grew up to be an important leader for civil rights. I like this book a lot because it tells the story of Martin’s life, but it also has quotes. A quote is something that someone says. A quote is real; it is not made up. One of the quotes in this book is: “I have a dream that one day in Alabama little black boys and black girls will join hands with little white boys and white girls as sisters and brothers”. That is a quote that Martin Luther King, Jr. really said. It is a very nice quote.
I hope that you will visit the library and find this book so you can read all of the quotes in it!
