Dewey’s reading Winter Eyes by Douglas Florian. This book’s call number is J 811 Florian. Librarians read the call number as J eight eleven (not eight hundred eleven). This book looks like a picture book, but did you notice the book’s call number? It has a Dewey Decimal number so it is nonfiction and not a picture book. 811 is the number for poetry. This is a book of poems! Poetry books all have a similar Dewey Decimal number so that librarians can shelve them together. Some poetry books are 811, some are 811.52, and some are 811.54. But since they all share the number 811, they stay together on the shelf. Have you tried reading a poetry book lately? You should! They are a lot of fun!
