Lewis A. Ray Library

History

In 1962, the Lemons-Vinings area was a growing area of Cobb County with new subdivisions, stores, fire stations and schools – but no library.  The Trillium Garden Club voted to spearhead a drive to develop a branch library in cooperation with the Cobb County-Marietta Library System.  The Oakdale Library opened in October of that year in the basement of the Oakdale Fire Station on S. Atlanta Road.  The current facility located at 4500 Oakdale Road was built with $88,000 provided from bond funds and was dedicated in March 1967.   The branch was named in honor of Dr. Lewis A. Ray, a local dentist, who was the Chairman of the Cobb County-Marietta Library System. The library is popular with local families who are able to walk to the library to enjoy programs for children, browse the collection, or use a computer.
