About the library

In 1963, the Kennesaw Women’s Club proposed opening a library for Kennesaw, and with the support of the City Council, the Kennesaw Library was founded. The Library was housed in the Kennesaw City Hall – the former City Jail. City Council members remodeled the 20’ x 30’ space themselves, even building bookshelves.

In 1965, the County passed a bond issue to build and equip new library buildings across the County. A new facility opened its doors in 1967 as part of the Marietta/Cobb County Library System. The new Kennesaw Library immediately became a vital part of the community and was expanded in 1989.

Today, visitors find a vibrant, busy branch, just off Main Street in downtown Kennesaw. The library offers an array of regular activities and programs, including a monthly book discussion group for adults, and weekly story times for babies, toddlers, pre-schoolers and school-age children. The library hosts a CAREingPaws’ Read to a Dog program twice a month, a monthly school age art program, and a variety of special programs for adults, children and families year-round.

Library staff is always ready to help patrons find exactly what they need. In addition to many databases and electronic resources, the collection includes books, DVDs, audio books, newspapers and magazines for all ages. The Kennesaw Library even has a small collection of books for sale.
