South Cobb Regional Library in Mableton has several Summer Reading Program 2017 events for all ages coming up this week. These events include demonstrations, story times and guest speakers.

The library’s Storm Drain Marking program is scheduled for Monday, June 19th from 4 pm to 5 pm in support of the Cobb Watershed Stewardship Program teaching children all about how storm drains work. Kids will find out what happens when litter and harmful substances are dumped into drains. After the program, kids will learn how they can play a role in keeping our planet clean and healthy and they will get to place storm drain markers at various locations on library grounds.

The monthly Make it Monday event for tweens and teens ages 12 to 18 is on Monday, June 19th from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm. Make it Monday is an arts and crafts event held on the third Monday of the month in which tweens put something together or build something unique. This month’s craft will be glass magnets. After making a homemade magnet, patrons will get to design and decorate their creation.

Author Miles Davis will be reading from his children’s series Butterpup and Friends on Wednesday, June 21st from 11 am to 11:30 am. Davis will be bringing his drawings and characters to life during this special storytime. Ages 3 to 5. Signed copies of “Butterpup and Friends” will also be available for purchase.

Dr. Hai T. Ho, Chair and Associate Professor of Kennesaw State University’s new Computer Engineering Department, will present Engineers Help Build a Better World – Control Systems on Wednesday, June 21st from 7 pm to 8 pm. He will be speaking about various kinds of control systems and technologies, and demonstrating how they work using a drone and an electric unicycle. Dr. Ho will also be highlighting careers offered by KSU’s  Kennesaw State University’s Southern Polytechnic College of Engineering and Engineering Technology.

Old and New: VR and Game Time is Thursday, June 22nd from 1 pm to 3 pm. We will be having a demonstration showcasing our HTC Vive VR headset. Ages 12 and up. After the demo, try out the virtual reality headset and ask any questions about VR. There will also be board games and video games available to play. Basic Spanish, a six-week series on Mondays from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm offered by State Rep. Erica Thomas, starts June 19th. Materials are provided, but please bring a notebook. Please register by calling the Reference Desk at (678) 398-5831.
