Meet Dewey at the Marietta Reads! Kickoff Event

The Marietta Reads! 12th Annual Kickoff Event, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., in Glover Park in the Marietta Square, 50 Park Square. The celebration of the Marietta City Schools citywide promotion of reading and literacy will feature a book fair, school dance and drama performances, along with book costume characters. Marietta Reads! mascot Mari-Etta will be there – and Cobb County Public Library System mascot Dewey will also make a special appearance! This year’s theme for Marietta Reads! is “Reading STEMs Creativity,” to highlight the connection of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) to the importance of reading. Keep Cobb Beautiful is celebrating the organization’s 30th anniversary with the Picnic in the Park, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at East Cobb Park, 3322 Roswell Road, Marietta. Food, fun and entertainment. Cobb County Touch-A-Truck is 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Town Center Mall, Kennesaw. The family-friendly event for kids of all ages will feature fire engines, police cars, SWAT trucks, police helicopter, heavy construction vehicles and more. $5 per person; maximum of $20 per family.  All proceeds benefit the Cobb County Safety Village. Catch a movie: Screenings at Cobb libraries on September 27 at 3 p.m. include Muppets Most Wanted at Switzer Library and The Parent Trap at Powder Springs Library.
