School will be out the week of December 24th through early January for Cobb County and Marietta City schools as well as for many private and homeschool students for the holidays. We will have plenty of activities packed throughout the holiday break. Join us for crafts, movies, and more.

Make and Take Crafts: Holiday Edition at Lewis A. Ray Library. Drop in any time from 2 pm – 4pm up until December 21 to prep for the holidays before winter break! Drop in and make a holiday craft and then take it home to showcase your decoration.

Winter Craft Daze at Vinings Library on December 19. This craft day for families with children of all ages gives attendees opportunities to explore various avenues and mediums of art all day long. Drop in at any time. We’ll have instructions on how to create last minute holiday gifts and cards.

1st and 3rd School Age STEAM at West Cobb Regional Library on December 19 from 3:45 pm – 4:45 pm. Our STEAM series provides hands on experiments for a different letter of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) every two weeks for students in grades 2 – 5. Holiday Movie Saturday at Switzer Library on December 22 from 2 pm – 4 pm. We will be watching White Christmas, the classic 1954 holiday musical following the tale of two song and dance men and a sister act that pull together to help a retired military man save his Vermont inn. Stars Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Rosemary Clooney, and Vera Ellen.

Books to Movie Time at Sibley Library on December 26 from 4 pm – 6 pm. We will be screening a movie that started out as a book, so bring your favorite snacks and enjoy!

TWEEN ONLY Movie at West Cobb Regional Library on December 26 from 2:30 pm – 4:30 pm. Come hang out with other tweens as we snack and screen a film picked specifically for tweens ages 9 – 12.

Classic Movie Thursday at Sewell Mill Library & Cultural Center on December 27 from 2 pm – 4 pm. Enjoy a screening of the classic The Muppet Christmas Carol.

Celebrate Pete the Cat at West Cobb Regional Library on December 28 from 11 am – noon. We’ll be celebrating everyone’s favorite cat by sharing stories, playing games, and making crafts. Recommended for ages 4 and up.

Noon Years Eve at Vinings Library on December 31 from 11 am – noon. We will be ringing in the new year with story time, dressing up in our fanciest clothes, and having our very own balloon drop.

Just for Teens: Sticky Note Art at Sewell Mill Library & Cultural Center on January 2 from 3 pm – 4:30. Create a panel of sticky note art in the teen room with a team of your fellow teens. The art will stay up for a few weeks so other patrons can vote on their favorite panel! This program is intended for teens, ages 13 and older. No registration necessary.  

Winter Break Read Aloud & a Craft at West Cobb Regional Library on January 2 from 2:30 pm – 3:30 pm. In this program recommended for children grades k – 2 we read the first few chapters of a chapter book aloud and then we make a craft related to what we’ve read.

FORT Night at Sewell Mill Library & Cultural Center on January 2 from 5 pm – 7 pm. Bring blankets, clips, pillows, and all of your favorite fort-making materials (we’ll also provide some materials!) and we’ll make some epic forts in the Children’s Department. We’ll be reading stories, making crafts, dancing, and more.

Puppet Creation Workshop with Cobb County Parks & Recreation at Sewell Mill Library & Cultural Center on January 3 from 2 pm – 3 pm. We will be partnering with Cobb County Parks and Recreation to teach children 2 – 10 years old how to make their very own puppets and scenery. All supplies will be provide. No registration required.

CAREing Paws: Read to Murray at Mountain View Regional Library on January 5 from 11:30 am – 12:30 pm. Sign up for a 15 minute session of reading to a certified CAREing Paws therapy dog. Spaces are limited. Register at the Children’s Reference Desk or by calling 770-509-4964.

Anime Club at Sewell Mill Library & Cultural Center on January 5 from 1 pm – 3 pm. Meet up with your fellow anime fans and enjoy anime shows while we participate in a related activity to the show. This program is intended for teens, ages 13 and older only. No registration necessary. 

Teen Movie Event: The Dark Crystal at East Cobb Library on January 5 from 2:30 pm – 4:30 pm. Teens of all ages are welcome to join us for a showing of The Dark Crystal (PG). Feel free to bring your favorite movie snacks. No registration required.

All Cobb County Public Libraries will be closed on Sunday, December 23, through Tuesday, December 25. Cobb libraries will open at 10 am on Wednesday, December 26 for our regular schedule.

Libraries will close at 5 pm Monday, December 31. All libraries will also be closed on Tuesday, January 1st for the New Year Holiday and will open Wednesday, January 2nd at 10 am.
