Crafts, science projects, movies, games and more are on the Cobb County library events calendar for Winter Break. Students in the Cobb County and Marietta school districts and various area private schools will be off from December 22nd to early January.

Special Winter Break programs to keep boredom at bay at the libraries include:

Gingerbread Man Story Time at Vinings Library on Monday, December 19 from 10:30 am to 11:15 am. Children of all ages will enjoy decorating a gingerbread man of their own, then will be treated to stories, songs and rhymes. (770) 801-5330.

Family Movies at Switzer Library start at noon in the youth services department and will feature family favorites including several new releases like Finding Dory and The BFG. (click the links below for movie schedule) . (770) 528-2320.

Join us for a Holiday Fun Break at Switzer Library from 3 pm to 5 pm all week! Starting on Tuesday 12/27, Learn how to use all the Technology you got as gifts, 12/28 Play life size Candyland, 12/29 Giant Jenga, 12/30 Legos, 12/31 Board games for New Year’s Eve,  01/03 Paper bag dramatics,  01/04 3D Printing Workshop. Ready, set, CRAFT! Join us at the Kennesaw Library for a fun and creative art project on Tuesday, December 27. All the materials will be provided and no registration is required — just drop in any time between 3 pm and 4 pm! This activity is for all ages, however, younger children may need assistance from their caregiver. (770) 528-2529.

Chess Night at the South Cobb Regional Library on Tuesday, December 27 from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. We’ll have Chess boards, books about chess, and a quiet place to play. All skill levels are welcome to come meet other chess aficionados in Cobb County! (678) 398-5828.

Crafternoon at East Cobb Library on Wednesday, December 28 from 2 pm to 4 pm. Families with children of all ages can make a variety of fun crafts during this drop-in program, and all supplies are provided. No registration is required. Winter Craft Station at East Marietta Library on Wednesday, December 28 from 2 pm to 5 pm. Ages 3 years and up and their adult caretakers. No registration required. (770) 509-2711.

Sign up soon for Full STEAM Ahead: Coding Camp to be held at South Cobb Regional Library on Wednesday, December 28 from 3 pm to 4 pm. We’ll be playing coding games, teaching the outlines of the HTML coding language, and snacking! Please call the children’s reference desk at 678-398-5828 or stop by in person to sign up. Registration is required/Limited to 20. Intended for ages 9 and up.

Afternoon Family Movie at Kennesaw Library on Wednesday, December 28 at 3pm. Come see the film Happy Feet (PG), which runs for 1 hour and 48 minutes. Feel free to bring a dry snack and comfy blankets/pillows! (770) 528-2529.

Building STEAM at Switzer Library on Wednesday, December 28 at 4 pm. STEAM fun at the library. You might find yourself experimenting with science and art, solving an engineering problem, or exploring with technology! December’s theme is National Chocolate Covered anything day & National Cocoa Day. This program will be held in the Children’s Programming Room and will run for 45-60 minutes. Parents will need to stay in the building for the duration of the program. Recommended for school age children. (770) 528-2320.

Stuffed Animal Sleepover at Mountain View Regional Library on Wednesday, December 28. Animals can check in between 6:30 and 7 pm.  Storytime for you and your plush pal will begin at 7. Animals may be picked up Thursday morning when the library opens. You’ll get a full report of the night’s adventures including pictures. Registration is required by calling 770-509-4964.

Children can ring in the New Year a little early at Noon Year’s Eve Party at Vinings Library on Friday, December 30 with dancing, games, crafts and snacks from 11 am until we welcome the New Year at noon. Children are invited to wear their fanciest clothes for this very special celebration. (770) 801-5330.

The Cobb County Public Library System wishes everyone a happy holiday season!

The library system will be closed on the following winter dates:

  • Christmas: closed Saturday, December 24 through Monday, December 26
  • New Year’s Eve: closing at 5 pm
  • New Year’s: closed Sunday, January 1 and Monday, January 2
  • Martin Luther King Jr. Day: closed Monday, January 16
