Wednesday’s lineup of free programs at the Cobb County Public Library System includes several children’s events focusing on science. The events are part of the library’s 2014 Summer Reading Program. Many of the summer events are presented by our community partners.

The Sound of Science at Sweetwater Valley Library, 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. The Natural Resources Unit of Cobb County PARKS presents an interactive story time exploring sound with The Bear Goes Over the Mountain. The program is designed for preschoolers but all ages welcome. It’s Electric! at Gritters Library, Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. Investigate with Kathleen McElroy of Cobb County 4-H such scientific topics as static electricity, electric circuits, insulators and conductors. Learn how to make an electromagnetic and explore magnetic properties. Information: (770) 528-2524.
Windy Science at Powder Springs Library, 3:30 p.m. Wednesday. The program will explore tornados, lightning, tsunamis and other forces of nature and include hands-on experiments that are blowing in the wind. Open to kids ages 5 to 12; children 6 and under must be accompanied by a caregiver. Information: (770) 439-3600.
Rain Sticks and Drops at East Cobb Library, 3:30 p.m. Wednesday. Join the Cobb County Watershed Stewardship Program and make your own rain stick out of household materials and enjoy a reading of A Raindrop’s Journey by Mark Graber. For ages 5 and up.
