In September, representatives from the Community Engagement Department of the Cobb County Public Library System along with local library branch staff visited four schools around the county, meeting with teachers and media specialists to introduce them to library resources that can be put into use in the classroom. Using the library’s digital resources on the smart board, accessing free magazines for children, and encouraging kids to become independent readers were all topics that were addressed. During this outreach event, teachers were able to receive Educator library cards on site, get one-on-one information about teaching materials relevant to their individual classroom needs, and were treated to free posters and bookmarks from the library. Cobb Libraries love to support our area teachers as we work toward a common goal of promoting childhood literacy by encouraging students to be active knowledge seekers both inside and outside the classroom.
