Go is just one of the many games featured at the Switzer Social Club every Thursday from 1 pm – 2:30 pm at the Switzer Library. In addition to board games, the social club also features puzzles, adult coloring books, card games and the chance to meet like-minded people.

Go, an abstract two-person game of strategy is a board game in which the main goal is to surround more territory than your opponent. The game, which originated in ancient China and is over 2,500 years old, has been played by a variety of people in different standings in life, including famous scholars such as Albert Einstein and business leaders like Bill Gates.

Studies show that adults who play strategy games can reap a great number of benefits from the social interaction, concentration, and the critical thinking skills required to play. Exercising mental muscles regularly can help improve mental and cognitive functions, as well as reduce stress and stimulate creativity. The social interactions from multi-player games can boost confidence and help people recharge from the stresses of day to day life.
