The first week of June features lots of 2019 Summer Reading Program events and activities at Cobb County Public Libraries. The 2019 SRP theme is A Universe of Stories. Launch June with special crafts, themed storytimes, tech programs, trivia, special guest experts and more at your Cobb County libraries.
Our jam-packed schedule of early June events include:
Tween STEAM at Powder Springs Library on Monday, June 3 from 4 pm – 5 pm. Our hands-on program tackles a different letter of STEAM every week (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math). In honor of this year’s Summer Reading theme, we will be studying and making our own moon rocks. 770-439-3600
Fearless Art at Vinings Library on Tuesday, June 3 from 2 – 3 pm is for school age children. Explore different ways to create art! This program involves paint, so please dress accordingly. 770-801-5308
Acworth Library’s Storytime in the Park is at Cauble Park at Lake Acworth meets Tuesday from 10:30 am – 11:30 am through July 16th. Bring a towel, blanket, or lawn chair out to for storytime. Cauble Park is located at 4425 Beach St, Acworth, GA 30101. In the event of severe weather we will meet at Acworth Library. 770-917-5165
Meet a Police Dog at West Cobb Regional Library on Tuesday, June 4 from 3 pm – 4 pm. Learn about the responsibilities of a police dog by meeting a Cobb County Police K-9 and seeing demonstrations on what they do every day at work. 770-528-4699
Teen Trivia at Sewell Mill Library & Cultural Center on Tuesday, June 4 from 3 pm – 4 pm. Test your trivia skills on books, film, music, pop culture and more. Ages 13+. 770-509-4988
Find your “Space” with 4-H Yoga at Gritters Library on Tuesday, June 4 from 3 pm – 4 pm. Cobb 4-H will guide children through yoga exercises that promote positive physical, social, and emotional health. Bring your own mats, or use one provided by Cobb 4-H. This program is free and provided by the Healthy Habits Grant. Ages K-5. Register at 770-528-2524
Tween Stop Motion at Kemp Library on Tuesday, June 4 from 3:30 pm – 4:30 pm. Tweens ages 9-12 will learn how to make short stop motion films on an iPad using LEGOs! Space is limited. Registration is required. 770-528-2527
Storytime with Ranger Amanda at Acworth Library on Tuesday, June 4 from 3:45 pm – 4:45 pm. Ranger Amanda from Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park will be reading a story and showcasing some of the things you might encounter at Kennesaw Mountain, like furs and animal tracks. We will also do a craft related to what we learn. 770-917-5165
Beekeeping with Liz Kieler at Gritters Library on Wednesday, June 5 from 2 – 3 pm. Beekeeper Liz Kieler will give a lesson on what it’s like to be a beekeeper and will explain how the hive works, what the queen bee does, how to attract bees and more. There will be no live bees present at the program. 770-528-2524
Fort Night at Sewell Mill Library & Cultural Center on Wednesday, June 5 from 7 pm – 8:30 pm. Bring your favorite fort-making materials (some will be provided). We’ll be building forts, reading stories, and making a craft. All children must be accompanied by an adult. 770-509-4988
Moo to Table with the Cobb County Farm Bureau at Sewell Mill Library & Cultural Center on Thursday, June 6 from 11 am – noon. The Georgia Farm Bureau is celebrating National Dairy Month at the library. The Cobb County Farm Bureau will be teaching kids how milk gets to the table and all about things that are made from milk. No registration is required. Daycares and camps please call 770-509-4936 one week in advance so we can plan for space.
Tiny Tots: How Does Your Garden Grow? at Vinings Library on Thursday, June 6 from 11 am – noon. This garden party themed storytime will have stories, crafts, and gardening. 770-801-5330
Space Camp at Mountain View Regional Library on Thursday, June 6 from 2 pm – 3:30 pm. Blast off into summer with our drop-in Space Camp. We’ll have a variety of space-themed activities, crafts, and more that is perfect for all astronauts in training. 770-509-4964
Make it Thursday at Powder Springs Library on June 6 from 4 pm – 5 pm. Kids ages 5-9 will be learning why the moon has craters and what happens when an object hits the moon’s surface while making their own version of the moon. 770-439-3600
Family Space Day at Powder Springs Library on Saturday, June 8 from 11 am – noon. We’ll be exploring the effects of gravity with arts and crafts that are out of this world. 770-439-3600
