More than a dozen employers are scheduled to attend the Job Fair for Teens/Young Adults on Thursday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Stratton Library, 1100 Powder Springs Road NW, Marietta.
The Thursday event coincides with the spring break week for Cobb County and Marietta public school students. The job fair follows the job search workshop presented Tuesday by workforce services provider CobbWorks at the Stratton Library. The workshop drew a capacity crowd of about 50 people to the mid-sized library branch.
“The job fair event will help connect teenagers and young adults with company representatives providing job, volunteer, internship and training opportunities,” said Youth Services Librarian Angela Mbagwu, organizer of the April 9 job fair. “They will also gain awareness of community agencies that provide ongoing assistance for teens seeking employment.”
Summer jobs and regular employment opportunities: Employers scheduled to attend the Job Fair include representatives from CobbWorks, Lowe’s, Six Flags Over Georgia, Marshalls, T.J. Maxx, Old Navy, LensCrafters, Popeyes, and McDonald’s. For the complete list, visit www.cobbcat.org/event/job-fair-for-teens-young-adults.
The job market for Cobb youths is very competitive, making job-ready skills like interviewing, resume writing and communication critical for landing most available positions.
For young jobseekers, the labor market nationwide has improved significantly since the depths of the Great Recession of a few years ago. Still, although Cobb County’s official unemployment rate reportedly is under six percent, the youth unemployment rate is believed to be closer to the national average for young people – almost triple the overall jobless rate.
