Discover Your Health at the Library!

The goal of the Discover Your Health at the Library! initiative is to provide opportunities for Cobb County residents to learn how they can live a healthy lifestyle.

Organizations from around the community will be invited to present programs about health and wellness. These programs will be filmed by the Triple D Production Company, and a series of films will be shown at the end-of-summer reading party in August 2012.   More information about the Triple D Production Company can be found at www.cobbcat.org/tripleD.

    Speaker: Amanda Timberlake, Life University
    Amanda Timberlake is an Associate Professor in the Sport Health Science program at Life University in Marietta, GA.  She graduated from Cornell University with a B.S. in Food Science and from Florida State University with two M.S.Degrees, one in Nutrition and the other, Exercise Physiology.  She has been a registered dietitian for 25+ years and has experience in sports nutrition, acute care dietetics, geriatric nutrition, food service and wellness. 
  • Serving Up Healthy Habits
    Saturday, February 4, 2012, 2 pm at the East Cobb Library
    Speaker: Dawn Florence, Cobb Extension , and the Cobb Youth Summit Team
    Serving Up Healthy Habits focuses on portion control, serving sizes, and personal fitness, promoting healthier habits that will carry on through adulthood.  Interactive and hands-on activities allow children to visualize healthy portions and sizes, while educating them on the importance of eating healthy and exercising. Cobb Youth Summit Team is a youth leadership team, focusing on bi-annual county issues, and implementing youth programs related to those issues. Georgia Youth Summit Teams attend bi-annual conferences at Georgia 4-H Center, Rock Eagle, and take back the knowledge they’ve gained to educate youth in their county.   • Kids in the Kitchen
    Saturday, March 3, 2012, 2 pm at the Mountain View Regional Library
    Presented by Junior League of Cobb-Marietta
    The goal of this program is to empower youth to make healthy lifestyle choices and help reverse the growth of childhood obesity and its associated health issues.
