People in all 50 states are planning to take a “First Day Hike” on New Year’s Day. From casual walks to vigorous treks, First Day Hikes are about fun, health and adventure in the outdoors to start the new year.
A national movement launched by America’s State Parks, First Day Hikes will include several 2015 hikes in Georgia led by state park rangers on January 1 and 2. First Day activities near Cobb County include hikes at Red Top Mountain and Sweetwater Creek state parks. For the list of hikes, visit http://gastateparks.org/events.
Cobb County has many public hiking and walking paths, from the trails of Cobb County P.A.R.K.S. to the National Park Service’s Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park and Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area, city trails and more.

Visit the Cobb County Public Library System website for resources on outdoor activities, such as guidebooks on hiking in Georgia, digital magazines and more. Cobb libraries will be closed January 1 and re-open for regular hours on January 2.
