What started as a weekly crafting session at Gritters Library morphed into a knitting group when it was discovered that the regular attendees were also knitting enthusiasts. Gritters’ Knitters meets Fridays from 11 am to 1 pm.
The group’s sessions are not all knitting: many bring crochet, cross-stitch and embroidering projects. New members are always welcomed, and Gritters is a great place to learn from others, as everyone is willing to lend a hand. There is a lot of crafting talent here, including Gritters Library Branch Manager Jennifer Wells, who likes to crochet, knit and fold origami. “If I see something, I can usually figure out how to make it,” she says.
The atmosphere is laid back and chatty, and seeing everyone’s work take shape is inspiring. It’s unlikely you will run out of ideas here: there are plenty of crafting books to check out before you go.
