Cobb County Public Library System’s events calendar features several programs for students and families seeking activities for this school-free week. The Cobb libraries’ programs for the remainder of November include games, movies and more.

Thanksgiving2014November 24-28 is a holiday week for the Cobb County School District and Marietta City Schools, and area private schools also have scheduled holidays through much or all of the week. Cobb libraries will be closed Thursday and Friday.

Programs on the library calendar through the week include:

Reading One-On-One at East Marietta Library on Monday from 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. Share your favorite book, one-on-one, with your librarian. Fifteen minute time slots available with phone registration by calling (770) 509-2711 or at the Youth Services Reference Desk.

The Heist Movies Series in November concludes at Switzer Library Monday at 6 p.m. with the screening of The War Wagon.

LEGOmania at Acworth Library on Tuesday from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Students are invited to express creativity by building inventions using LEGOs. Information: (770) 917-5165.

Chess Night at South Cobb Regional Library on Tuesday, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. We will have Chess Boards, books about chess as well as a place to play. All ages. Meet other chess aficionados in Cobb County. Information: (678) 398-5828.

Where Am I From? A Special Program for Children and Their Grandparents at Powder Springs Library on Wednesday, 2 p.m. Grandparents and their grandchildren are invited to learn how to trace their roots, to share their family traditions and to celebrate our connection as the human family. Kids will make a family tree and grandparents will go home with the tools to start their own genealogy project. Children must be at least 6 years old. Registration required. The Family Movies series continues at Switzer Library on Saturday at 3 p.m. with a showing of Annie.

The Super Saturday Matinee series at Powder Springs Library on Saturday at 3 p.m. features Meet Me in St. Louis. Information: (770) 439-6664.

The Cobb County Public Library System will be closed on the following dates:

  • Wednesday, November 26: All branches close at 5 p.m.
  • Thursday, November 27: All branches closed
  • Friday, November 28: All branches closed

Regular operating hours resume on Saturday, November 29.
