This Friday, February 6th, is National Wear Red Day, a day to Go Red for Women to raise awareness about heart health.

WomensHeartHealthSponsored by the American Heart Association, Wear Red Day is a campaign to save lives: “1 in 3 women die of heart disease and stroke. But it can be prevented.”

Heart disease is a leading community health challenge for Cobb County. Cobb & Douglas Public Health reports that heart and vascular disease are the No. 1 cause of death in adults in Cobb, Georgia and the United States. The health district recently reported 4.1 percent of adults in the two-county area suffered a heart attack in 2011.

The Cobb County Public Library System has numerous resources on heart health and related topics, including nutrition and exercise. For more information, visit any library location or www.cobbcat.org.
