Games, movies, science experiments, singing and crafts are on the Cobb County library events calendar throughout Winter Break. Students in the Cobb County and Marietta school districts and various area private schools are off until early January.

Events on the library calendar through the start of 2016 include:

December 22 is the first official day of winter. It’s Winter!, a picture book by Linda Glaser, is a celebration and scientific exploration of the season.

S.T.E.A.M @ Switzer on Saturday, December 19, 3 p.m. to 4 p.m., is a chance to explore a science, technology, engineering, art and math topic. “Ice Cold” is the topic for December 19th program of hands-on activities and experiments at Switzer Library in Marietta. Monday afternoon movie screenings for the After School Special – Shadowcasts and Sing-Alongs! program at the Vinings Library during the Winter Break in December include Big Hero 6 on December 21 and How to Train Your Dragon on December 28. The programs start at 3 p.m. A shadowcast is a group of people acting out a movie while it’s being shown. All ages; a grownup must stay with the child throughout the movie. Switzer Library is presenting classic Jimmy Stewart films for the Tuesday Lunchtime Movie series in December. Bring your lunch and enjoy movies starting films at noon – December 22: It’s a Wonderful Life and December 29: Harvey. Information: (770) 528-2331.

Holiday Card Make-and-Take at the East Cobb Library on Tuesday, December 22, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Families with children of all ages can create cards for the holidays during this drop-in program. Children 9 and younger must be accompanied by an adult. Information: (770) 509-2730.

After School Special – From the Vault! at Vinings Library during Winter Break features Disney movies on Tuesdays starting at 3 p.m., including Mulan on December 22 and Peter Pan on December 29. A grownup must stay with the child throughout the movie. Light snacks and pillows/blankets are OK. Information: (770) 801-5330.

Acworth LEGOmania! at the Acworth Library on Tuesday, December 22, 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Bring your imagination; we’ll provide the LEGOs. Information: (770) 917-5165.

Chess Night at the South Cobb Regional Library on Tuesday, December 22, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. We’ll have Chess boards, books about chess as well as a place to play. Meet other chess aficionados in Cobb County! Information: (678) 398-5828.

Watch Disney’s Frozen movie and do a craft at Switzer Library on Saturday, December 26, 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Information: (770) 528-2320.

The Teen Holiday Break program at Kemp Memorial Library on Tuesday, December 29, 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. will feature a screening of the Anime movie Steamboy. Drawing materials will be provided or bring your own. For grades 6 and up. Information: (770) 528-2527.

Science Drawer at East Marietta Library on Wednesday, December 30, 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. Participate in simple hands-on science experiments using items found in your library’s junk drawer. Grades 1-5. Information: (770) 509-2711.

Teen Cinema & Anime Club at East Cobb Library on Saturday, January 2, 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. The program for teens in grades 6-12 includes a movie or shows and other activities. Information: (770) 509-2730.

  • Christmas: closed Thursday, December 24 and Friday, December 25
