The October 5th First Wednesday in the Georgia Room program at the Switzer Library will cover archives located within driving distance of Cobb County. The free program is from 7 to 8 pm.
The event is scheduled to coincide with Georgia Archives Month, a statewide celebration in October organized by the Society of Georgia Archivists, said Carolyn Crawford, head of the Georgia Room. Wednesday’s program will include the archival resources of the Georgia Room and an overview of the archival repositories across the state, she added.
Archival repositories in Georgia range from centers at public libraries, universities, historical society headquarters, and the National Archives and Georgia Archives complexes located together in Morrow.
The First Wednesday series focuses on a range of topics involving family history research and preservation of documents. The November 2nd evening program will be on African American research resources. A 2017 lineup of First Wednesday program is planned, Crawford said.
First Wednesday events are popular and known for program presenters and audience members providing advice on historical research.
“It’s really a time for learning and sharing,” Crawford said. “The sharing gets pretty lively and informative.”
Light refreshments will be served during the First Wednesday events. The Georgia Room staff encourages everyone to arrive early and stay late.
