Memory Loss, Dementia and Alzheimer’s: What you need to know

South Cobb Regional Library

Thursday, May 30 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

| Free
Monica W. Parker, MD, of the Goizueta Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (ADRC) at Emory University will present Memory Loss, Dementia and Alzheimer’s: What you need to know at South Cobb Regional Library on Thursday, May 30 at 11 a.m.
Dr. Parker, a geriatric physician, encourages families – whole communities – to address the challenges of Alzheimer’s and other types of dementia. She promotes healthy nutrition and exercise for all ages for better brain health later in life. She promotes early diagnosis to ensure treatment options are considered to reduce symptoms, to give families the opportunity to develop long-term healthcare and financial plans, and to establish a support network.
Dr. Parker leads the Minority Engagement Core (MEC), one of six cores of the Emory Goizueta ADRC. A faculty member of Emory School of Medicine since 1995, she is an Assistant Professor in Neurology.
Dr. Parker has received several honors, including Atlanta Magazine’s Groundbreaker of the Year award in 2016 – out of the 12 nominees for the year’s “Aging Well” theme – for “educating African Americans about Alzheimer’s – and making sure they’re represented in scientific research.”
The May 30th program is free and open to the public.
