Kennesaw Tuesday Afternoon Book Discussion

Kennesaw Library

Tuesday, October 23, 2018 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm

Join us at the Kennesaw Library each month on the fourth Tuesday afternoon or evening for a lively book discussion. Newcomers are always welcome. The groups read and discuss a variety of works including fiction and non-fiction classics, a variety of genres, and a mix of cultures and time periods. We make every effort to have the book selections available for checkout at the Kennesaw Branch.

Today’s title: The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood. c1985. Speculative fiction. Dystopian literature.

The Handmaid’s Tale, by Canadian author Margaret Atwood, is set in a near-future New England, in a totalitarian and theocratic state, the Republic of Gilead, which has overthrown the United States government. The novel focuses on the journey of Offred, one of the handmaids assigned to bear children for elite couples who have trouble conceiving. Handmaids are forbidden to use their birth names and must echo the male whom they serve.
