One of the databases that comes free with your library card is Chronicling America historical newspapers archive, from the earliest days of the republic right up to the dawn of the space age. Vintage advertisements, dispatches from military campaigns, editorial views on then-current controversies, maybe obituaries or even profiles of your ancestors — all can be found right on your screen.
