First log into Galileo from the library home page (To see the current database/Galileo password, log on to CobbCat using your library card number and PIN. Then select MY PROFILE. The password is at the top.) Then select "NetLibrary" from the list of Galileo databases and "Create Free Account". If you have any trouble, call us at 770/528-2320. Q. How do I check out an eAudiobook? A. Go to www.NetLibrary.com/recordedbooks and log in. Select Audiobooks Center. Select the book you want to “read” and you will be walked through the process.
Q. How long can I keep an eAudiobook? A. You can check it out for three weeks and renew it once for another three weeks. A renewal means that you don’t have to download it again; it is just “re-activated” in your computer. If you need it longer, you can always check it out again but that does require an additional download.
Q. How many eAudiobooks can I check out at one time? A. You can check out ten at one time; however, they can’t be returned early so if you check out ten at once, you can’t check out any more for three weeks.
Q. What equipment do I need to listen to an eAudiobook? A. You can listen on your computer or transfer to a wide range of portable devices, including portable music players, portable media centers, Pocket PCs, and even select smartphone devices. Q. Can I download and listen to eAudiobooks on library computers. A. The files cannot be downloaded to public computers because of security measures in place. However, you will soon be able to take advantage of the library’s high speed wireless network and download to your wi-fi-enabled computer at the Central Library. The Library does not provide any personal listening devices.
Q. How can I get a list of eAudiobook available from the Cobb County Public Library? A. Go to www.NetLibrary.com/recordedbooks, login and select Audiobooks Center. You can search for a specific title, see some featured titles, or “List All Audiobooks.”
Q. What level of audio quality can I expect from a eAudiobook? A. There are two download options: CD quality, or radio quality. Radio quality provides faster download speed and is ideal for patrons with dial-up connections; CD quality offers high-fidelity playback for patrons with high-speed Internet access.
Q. How long does it take to download an audiobook? A. Download time will depend on the size of the audio file and the speed of your Internet connection. Downloading “CD-quality” with a dial-up connection can take several hours. With a cable modem, the largest files should take less than half an hour. When you start to download, you will be told how long it is expected to take.
Q. Are audiobook files automatically removed from computers when the checkout period expires? A. Once a checkout period expires, a patron will no longer have access to an audiobook. However, the audiobook file will remain on their hard drive unless it is manually deleted.
Q. I can’t find the file after I download it to my computer. A. In the download process, you are asked whether you want to “Open” or “Save” the file. Choose “Save” if you want to download it to a portable device or even listen to it in more than one session. “Open” puts it into a temp file that you can listen to once. Don’t worry, you can go back to netLibrary, get a list of the items you have checked out and download it again. You get four tries to download for each check-out.
Q. Can I burn the file to a CD? A. No, the copyright protection in the file prevents this.
Q. How do I listen to an audiobook in the car: A. You will need a radio transmitter or other device adapter that works with your portable listening device and car stereo. Contact your device manufacturer for specific requirements.
