Several Veterans Day events are scheduled throughout Cobb County, from parades and ceremonies to special programs and other events. There are many Cobb residents for whom Veterans Day 2014 is far more than a holiday.

The 10th Annual Veterans Day Parade, hosted by the City of Marietta and the Marietta Kiwanis Club, passed by the Marietta National Cemetery and Switzer Library Tuesday morning en route to the ceremony on the Marietta Square. Veterans, high school marching bands and ROTC units, floats and military vehicles were featured in the parade.

According to U.S. Veterans Administration data, Cobb County’s veterans population of 48,898 is the second highest veterans population of Georgia’s 159 counties. The VA data shows, as of September 2013, Fulton at 49,217 veterans, Gwinnett at 47,476 and DeKalb with 40,518.

Cobb County Public Library System is hosting events throughout the week related to Veterans Day. For a previous blog post on the programs, click here.
