Cobb County Public Library System is celebrating the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with several special activities in January.
The upcoming events include family programs, movies, and more:
Movie Monday at Windy Hill Library on January 14 from 11 am – 1 pm. We will be screening Selma, Lord Selma (PG), a film set in Selma, Alabama during the turbulent days of the civil right movement following a young African American schoolgirl who is inspired by MLK. Feel free to bring your favorite snacks or your lunch and join us in the Community Center Meeting Room. 770-528-2677.
Tuesday Night Movie at Switzer Library on January 15 from 5 pm – 7:30 pm. The award-winning movie Selma (2014, PG-13) will be shown. The film tells the story of the historic Selma to Montgomery marches for voting rights in 1965. Popcorn will be served. 770-528-2320.
Make it Thursday: MLK Peace Dove Craft at Powder Springs Library on January 17 from 4 pm – 5 pm. During this Arts and Crafts Club for kids ages 5 – 9 we will be making Peace Doves. 770-439-3600.
Switzer Saturday For Kids at Switzer Library on January 19 from 11 am – 11:45 am. Our MLK themed storytime will be followed by feature film Akeelah and the Bee (2006, PG) which is about an 11-year-old girl in South Los Angeles who discovers her talent for spelling, which she hopes will take her to the National Spelling Bee and make all of her dreams come true. 770-528-2320.
Community Spirit Family Day at West Cobb Regional Library on Saturday, January 19 from 1:30 pm – 3:30 pm. We invite the entire community to participate in our MLK themed activities. We will create a work of art to showcase the importance of unity, reading stories about diversity, and doing many other themed activities for the whole family. 770-528-4699.
I Have a Dream Storytime at Windy Hill Library on Tuesday, January 22 from 10 am – 10:45 am. Join us for stories and crafts celebrating big dreams, diversity, equality and love. This storytime is ideal for preschool and school age children. 770-528-2677.
The Cobb County Public Library System will be closed Monday, January 21 for observance of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.
