Civil War historian Michael K. Shaffer will give the Chattahoochee River Line 150th Anniversary Lecture at Powder Springs Library on Wednesday, November 5, 2 p.m. The program is free and open to the public.
The River Line Defense was a six mile stretch along the Cobb County side of the Chattahoochee River in the Vinings area consisting of unique fortifications designed by Confederate Brigadier General Francis Shoup. Shaffer, a board member of the River Line Historic Area non-profit organization, will share his insights on Shoup, the River Line Defense and the July 1864 action there.
