The Cobb County Public Library is presenting several themed events in late February into early March celebrating Read Across America and the life and works of renowned children’s author Dr. Seuss in honor of his 114th birthday.
Cobb libraries are launching the celebration ahead of the official Read Across America Day of March 2nd. Several of the regularly scheduled storytime programs for babies and toddlers at public libraries throughout Cobb over the next several days will feature Dr. Seuss stories and songs.
Upcoming events and activities celebrating the whimsical wordsmith, Read Across America and Read Across Georgia Month include:
Read Across America with Sprayberry High School at Gritters Library on Saturday, February 24, 1:20 pm – 4 pm. This special program celebrating the life of Dr. Seuss features Sprayberry High School Students reading their favorite children’s literature to kids of all ages.
- 1:20 pm to 1:45 pm – Toddlers and Pre-K
- 2:00 pm to 2:30 pm – Grades K-1
- 2:45 pm to 3:15 pm – Grades 2-3
- 3:30 pm to 4:00 pm – Grades 4-5
Read Across America Story Walk at Switzer Library will be held at the Marietta Square on Thursday, March 1 from 11 am – noon. The Story Walk, which consists of books, songs, and activities, will be at Glover Park on the Marietta Square. In the event of inclement weather, the Story Walk will take place in the Children’s Department of the Switzer Library.
At our Read All Day for Read Across America event at Vinings Library on Friday, March 2 we will be reading some of our favorite picture books aloud and we will have a Dr. Seuss inspired craft table set up so you can take the memories of the day home with you. Pop in any time!
Read Across America: Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss at Powder Springs Library on March 3, 1:30 – 3 pm. We will be reading stories, making Cat in the Hat related crafts, and will have a Dr. Seuss themed bean bag toss. Come dressed as your favorite Dr. Seuss character!
Pop in Preschool Storytime at Sewell Mill Library and Cultural Center on Monday, March 5, 10:30 am – 11:30 am. Our “Dr. Seuss on the Loose” themed storytime will feature some of Seuss’s greatest hits.
Baby and Toddler Storytime on Tuesday, March 6 and Preschool Storytime on Wednesday, March 7 at Lewis A. Ray Library will have take-home Dr. Seuss hat crafts and giveaway drawings. Both storytimes will be held from 10:30 am – 11 am. In addition to those giveaways, we will also have a display with decorations and books and takeaway bookmarks, stickers, and activity sheets.
