African-American Heritage Month film series: Hallelujah!
February is African-American Heritage Month so please join us as we’re showing a variety of films to celebrate at the library.
On February 11 we will screen the film Hallelujah! This is the first Hollywood produced sound picture with an all African-American cast. It is also Hollywood’s first attempt in portraying black rural life realistically. Songs include “Waiting at the End of the Road” by Irving Berlin and “Swanee Shuffle”. Starring Daniel Haynes, Nina Mae McKinney, and William Fountaine.
It was filmed in 1929 and is 109 minutes long.
