Downton Abbey Fan Movie Night: Importance of Being Earnest
By late January, Season Three of Downton Abbey is well underway so please join us to discuss the progression of your favorite show and watch a similar British film. The finale of the series is The Importance of Being Earnest.
A series of comedic mistaken identities ensues when two men, unafraid to bend the truth to overcome the dullness of their lives, both adopt an alter ego named Earnest. The plot spirals into ridiculous fun when both men fall in love with women using the same name. This film is based on the play by Oscar Wilde and stars Dame Judi Dench, Colin Firth, Rupert Everett, and Reese Witherspoon. Set in Late Victorian England, this farce is a fun counterweight to the more serious setting of post-Edwardian Britain in Downton Abbey.
Rated PG. 97 minutes.
