The Cobb County Public Library is a great place for children to learn the joy and value of books and information. Books, videos, compact discs and more are available to serve children for recreational and informational needs as well as to support educational needs. Textbooks are not collected; however, there is a wide range of materials of value to the young student doing research or studying. The Hattie G. Wilson Branch is specially designated as a Homework Center and also includes a large collection of African American materials.

The public library is a great place for parents to visit with their child and to share the joys of children's literature. The Children’s Departments serve children up to the sixth grade. It is important that parents guide their children’s selection at the library. The library staff is happy to make suggestions and recommendations; however, parents should monitor individual selections. Internet computers are filtered, but it is recommended that parents share in this activity as well. Public libraries are public buildings with a wide range of people in and out all day. The library is NOT the place to leave a child unattended.

Wide ranges of programs introduce children and caregivers to the library and to the joys of children’s books. Story times begin for children as young as 18 months and go up through young adults. Vacation Reading Program is a statewide reading program created to keep children reading throughout the long school break and to show them that reading for fun is great! School age book discussion groups encourage critical thinking skills. Film programs share books in a different way.
